

Sylvia Bayliff LaHue, a beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and community member, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 28, 1939, in Burlington, North Carolina, Sylvia was the daughter of J.O. Bayliff and Doris Apple Bayliff.
Throughout her life, Sylvia was known for her unwavering dedication to her family, her students, and her community. She spent over 35 years as a devoted teacher, shaping the minds and futures of countless students. Her passion for education and commitment to her students was a hallmark of her career. She was the sponsor for the award-winning yearbook of Bartlett High School, and she was devoted to her English as a Second Language students and proud of their accomplishments.
Sylvia was an active member of The Catholic Church of the Nativity, where her faith and community involvement were central to her life. She found great joy and solace in her many passions, including her lifelong love of reading and artistic creations with pastels, her enjoyment of gardening, and the devoted care she gave to her beloved rescued dogs, Fletcher and Mandy. Both held a particularly special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, James R. LaHue, and her dear daughter, Lisa LaHue Roys. Sylvia leaves behind a legacy of love and memories with her sons, Steve LaHue (Juliana) and Neal LaHue (Margaret). Her spirit and love continue to live on in her grandchildren: Paul LaHue (Maggie), Claire LaHue, Anais LaHue Walker (Logan), Michael LaHue, Joseph Roys (Kara), and Liza Roys.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Juliana LaHue for her unwavering support and loving care shown to Sylvia during her battle with cancer. Her kindness and dedication brought immense comfort to Sylvia and her family during this challenging time. The family also extends its heartfelt gratitude to Barbara Fitzpatrick, whose cherished friendship and loving presence were a treasured part of her life for many years.
A memorial service to celebrate Sylvia's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 7, 2026, at the Catholic Church of the Nativity in Bartlett, TN. Friends and family are invited to join in paying tribute to a remarkable woman whose life was marked by grace, love, and resilience. Private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sylvia's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, or The Catholic Church of the Nativity, both of which were close to Sylvia's heart.
