Me dear friend OJ and family…Terry was a brother to us. .I met him for the first time over 56 years ago.  His precious parents and Nancy were always considered as family to my parents and siblings. We have so many wonderful memories of growing up with Terry and him being a chauffeur to all of his “sisters” in his awesome green Nova. All of the laughs and all of the times he got mad at us 😊😊 will forever be cherished memories…Terry never missed the opportunity to tell us how much he loved his wife and his daughters. When he would come by the office to visit we always got to see all the pictures of his fish and his grandson.  My heart is truly broken and  I will never understand why this happened…all of my love, hugs and prayers to all of you…Sleep in heavenly peace wrapped safely in the arms of the angels my brother…I believe with all of my heart that there are great fishing holes in heaven…just save some fish for me. ❤️🫂🙏🏼🎣🎣

Thank you for not only opening your home to us but also your arms and friendship. We were always welcomed with a warm handshake and a big hug. I have no doubt that you will truly be missed around Horseshoe Lake. Rest in peace sir and go scope us out the best fishing hole ever.

Terry was an awesome person, ALWAYS had a smile and a word of encouragement. I will ALWAYS remember him bringing “Momma’s Peanut Brittle” for all to sample. You will be Loved and Missed My Brother. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.  EVERYONE whose life was touched by Terry was left encouraged and a better person for having known him! RIP ♥️

My in-laws moved into the East Point Villas condominiums in 2016. Whenever we visited, I had a habit of fishing the community pier early in the AM. I didn’t realize it at the time, but there were a few other residents that regularly did the same thing. One of those other residents was Terry Smith. It was almost guaranteed he would be out there every morning catching crappie and I really mean catching, not fishing, because Terry had the magic touch. On one occasion after not getting a bite, I asked Terry to switch with me. Switch spots and switch poles, let’s see what happens. Sure enough he continued catching and I couldn’t get a bite. To this day my crappie fishing technique just tries to replicate Terry’s: an ultralight rod, 4-6 lb test, a 1/32 ounce jig tied specifically on a loop knot. Oh yeah, you gotta have a crappie nibble or you’re wasting your time! Regardless though those mornings were more than just fishing.

Over time I developed a friendship with Terry and eventually he befriended my in-laws. This opened a new era for us at Horseshoe Lake. Even after we moved out of the Villas, Terry continued to invite us to the fish fry’s he and OJ would host. These fish fry’s are something special and if you’ve ever been to one you know what I’m talking about. They pack that condo with all of their friends and family, and provide everyone with a bounty of fried fish and other delicious food either Kyle cooked up or a friend provided.

My father-in-law has a phrase to really explain someone like Terry. He’s the type of person you could call to pull you out of a ditch at 2 o’ clock in the morning. He’s the person I would call if I was ever stranded on the lake. He’d give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was honest and wasn’t afraid to say what was on his mind.

What I would do to be able to fish with you again as the sun rises over Horseshoe, but I know you’re ripping lips up above.

Terry was the best friend I have ever known.  Always lived life to the fullest and we had many laughs also.  Already we are missing him deeply.  The Lake will not be the same without him.  Heaven got one of the best.  RIP brother.

Rest in peace, Uncle Terry. You will be missed. Catch the big ones in heaven.

We will miss you Terry. We had lots of laughs and fun at work and fishing. Never dreamed you and Roger Mitchell would be there at the same time.
