Born on March 29, 1949, in Memphis, TN. She carried a quiet strength and a joyful spirit that touched everyone she met. She graduated from Messick High School in 1967 and later earned her degree from Memphis State University, where her love for the Tigers took root and never faded. Whether cheering from the stands or from her living room, Vicki was a loyal fan of Memphis State basketball and football throughout her life.
Vicki found joy in the simple things—sunny days spent in her garden, the beauty of the outdoors, and the laughter of children. Her love for little ones led her to faithfully serve for many years in the church nursery, where her warmth and kindness made every child feel safe and loved. Her dedication to her faith and to her church family at Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett was unwavering. Vicki lived her life with a servant’s heart, always giving, always caring, and always putting others before herself.
She was the kind of person who made people feel seen and valued. Her gentle nature, sweet smile, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Vicki was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mike and Martha McDurmon, and her brother, Jerry McDurmon. She is survived by her devoted husband and best friend, Charles Gordon Nevels III; her brothers Allen McDurmon (Deborah) and Michael McDurmon (Sandra); and a host of extended family, friends, and church members who will always cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on North Germantown Parkway. Interment will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Vicki’s memory to Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary or Faith Baptist Church on North Germantown Road—two places close to her heart.
