Bill, I miss you. You were a friend (who was there for my on a couple unexpected occasions) and a great human being. Your personal experiences and stories captured the humanity of war (unlike any veteran I interviewed for the book) and how special it was to be a Ranger in Dog Company during WWII. I would have had a hard time writing Dog Company without your help.

Rest in peace brave hero.

Dear "Dad", You have always held a special place in my heart from that very first meeting in 1977(wow- 36 years ago!)You've taught me many things throughout these years - honesty, integrity, faithfulness, family, love, honor, courage! I hope I've passed these virtues onto your 2 grandchildren(as well as your 2 tiny great grandgirls) here in CT. I will miss your St Paddy's day cards to me;I will miss your tinkering with whatever it was you wanted to show me; I will miss our long phone conversations, your sweet remarks and your woodworking artwork; Most of all, I will miss the love you always showed to me, the tight hugs and the kisses-you always made it clear that I was your "daughter" and I knew I was loved by you (and Hazel). We Love you, Dad. You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
We send our love to our entire Hoffman family-Jan/Steve, Kenne/Vanessa(Aislynn&Aurelie)and Marla Dolan-Hoffman

To Mr. Hoffman's family,
Although I never had the pleasure of meeting your father and grandfather, my Pap, Sheldon Bare served with Bill in the 2nd Rangers and this Christmas was given the book Dog Company: The Boys of Pointe du Hoc by Patrick K. O'Donnell. I read about your father and grandfather and admired him as well as all the men of the Dog Company. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss.
