Consuelo Mares Cortez

Consuelo Mares died peacefully with family August 16th, at the amazing age of 100. Doña Chelo, Abuelita Chelo, Wueli, Doña Chelito as she was remembered by was born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila on July 7. 1921 to the late Paula Mares. She worked as a nanny and housekeeper for several years until the age of 85. Doña Chelo enjoyed bird watching, playing loteria, bingo, harvesting and de-shelling pecans, harvesting cactus (nopales) in the outskirts of her property, and singing hymns to the Lord. Left to cherish her loving memories are her children Maria De Jesus Salazar, Arturo Mares, and Alfredo Mares, 19 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, 3 nieces, as well as other close family and friends. Consuelo is proceeded in death by her mother Paula Mares, her brothers Seferino Cortez, Liandro Cortez, as well as her son Pablo Mares.

Visitation will be held on Thursday August 19, 2021 from 4pm-8pm at Goodnight Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Friday August 20, 2021 at 10 am at Goodnight Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bartlett City Cemetery.

The family of Maria De Jesus Mares, Arturo Mares, and Alfredo Mares would like to thank all the individuals who helped tend and care for the needs of Consuelo Mares in her final years.

Consuelo Mares murió pacíficamente con su familia el 16 de agosto a la increíble edad de 100 años. Doña Chelo, Abuelita Chelo, Wueli, Doña Chelito como la recordaban nació en Piedras Negras, Coahuila el 7 de julio de 1921, hija de la fallecida Paula Mares. Trabajó como niñera y ama de casa durante varios años hasta la edad de 85 años. Doña Chelo disfrutaba de la observación de aves, jugando a la lotería, bingo, cosechando y descascarando nueces, cosechando cactus (nopales)enlas afueras de su propiedad y cantando himnos al Señor. Quedan para atesorar sus recuerdos amorosos sus hijos María De Jesús Salazar, Arturo Mares y Alfredo Mares, 19 nietos, 40 bisnietos, 10 tataranietos, 3 sobrinas, así como otros familiares y amigos cercanos. Consuelo es conseguída en la muerte por su madre Paula Mares, sus hermanos Seferino Cortez, Liandro Cortez, y su hijo Pablo Mares.
