

Mr. Cortez died Tuesday April 26, 2022 in Temple, Texas. He was born February 13, 1970 to
Fernando and Leonor Cortez.
Steven graduated from Bartlett High school and attended Temple Junior College where he received various academic awards. He then received a scholarship to attend University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where he pursued a degree in History. He was a loyal Aggie football fan and loved cheering them on.
Steven’s career spanned work in leadership in the field of corrections. He also worked in victim services as the first Victim Assistance Coordinator for Milam County. He volunteered at TAASA, receiving recognitions and scholarships to attend continuing education. He ended his career as a paralegal at Lone Star Legal Aid.
Steven enjoyed playing tennis and held the position of Vice President of the Taylor Area Tennis Association (2011-2014) where he helped raise funds to keep the courts from being demolished.
Steven is preceded in death by his parents and sister Olga Marshall. He is survived by his five brothers, Fernando (Maria) Cortez of Bertram, Texas, Armando Cortez and Noe (Lucia) Cortez of Bartlett, Texas, Daniel Cortez of Temple, Texas and Andrew (Lesley) Cortez of Taylor, Texas. Five sisters Molly Trevino of Troy, Texas, Irene (Gary) Gadison of Davilla, Texas, Sophia Rodriguez of Temple, Texas, Lucia (Leonard) Campos of Bartlett, Texas, Rachel (Gilbert) Cuellar of Round Rock, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and cherished as his own in addition to cousins and close friends.
