Arlene Ann Shaddock West

She was born on February 18, 1934 to Paul and Elsie (Atkinson) Shaddock in Decatur, IL.

She graduated from Moweaqua High School in 1952. After high school, she attended the University of Illinois in Champaign and received her BS in Home Economics Education. There Arlene met William "Bill" West, and they married on July 1, 1956. They spent 68 years together until his passing on April 1, 2025.

Arlene was a teacher for a number of years at area schools, including Monroe Elementary School and Oak Grove Elementary School. Illini Bluff students may remember her nickname, "Sarge". She was always involved with the farming with Bill and taking care of her family.

She was an avid reader and loved going to Alpha Park Library. She would correct any inappropriate dangling participles and was an assertive passenger seat driver.

Arlene is survived by her children, W. Bruce (Julie) West of Geneseo, IL and Jeff (Tracy) West of Wyoming, IL; her grandchildren, Callie (Levi) Allen of White Heath, IL, Paul (Amanda) West of Elmwood, IL, Victoria (Andrew) Wells of Edwards, IL, and Elizabeth West of Chatham, IL; her great grandchildren, Ben and Emilia Allen, Evelyn and Lucy West, and Lila Wells; niece, Jane (Ed) Fussner; and nephew, David (Debby) Doubet.

She is preceded by her parents; her husband, Bill; her son, Robert "Rob" West; and her brother, Robert Shaddock.

A Visitation for Arlene will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville, IL. A Funeral Service will be held the next day on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 10:00 am at Hanna City Presbyterian Church in Hanna City, IL. Pastor Jay Johnson will be officiating. Committal service will be at Smithville Cemetery.
