She was born March 29, 1940 in Madison, New Jersey to William and Doris (Saunders) Effner. Carol married Fred A. Darrah on July 7, 1960 in Madison, New Jersey; he passed away July 30, 2023 in East Peoria.
Carol is survived by her children, Mike (Kimberly) Darrah of Bartonville, Stephen (Starris) Darrah of Newark, Ohio, Xuan (Scott) Tranchitella of Bartonville; Tammy Darrah of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Deidre, Jesse, Dani, Stephanie (Matthew), Jessica (Zack), Maria (Kyle), Brian (Megan), Zach and Hailey; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Will, Katelyn and Jacob; two brothers, Jon (Margaret) Effner of Lewes, Delaware and William (Gale Anderson) Effner of Ipswich, Massachusetts; her nieces and nephews,Traci (Roger) Clow of Lewes, Delaware and Matthew (Katie) Effner of Mantua, New Jersey, Stephen Effner of Sweden, Maine and Megan Effner of Scarborough, Maine.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carol was a woman of many passions and talents. Among her most cherished hobbies were her cats, which she adored and showered with affection. Her feline companions brought joy, comfort, and companionship into her life.
Reading was another of Carol's great passions. Her home was filled with a collection of books.
A true pillar of her community, Carol and her husband Fred dedicated countless hours to volunteering at the food pantry of the First United Methodist Church in East Peoria. Their unwavering commitment to helping those in need touched the lives of many and their selflessness was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing them.
In addition to her other hobbies, Carol had a green thumb and an incredible talent for nurturing African Violets. Her home was adorned with these delicate, vibrant plants, which flourished under her care.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel with memorial service immediately following.
