Carol Jean McCoy

Born on January 29, 1947, in Peoria to Rollin and Phyllis (Heitzman) Owen, Carol spent her entire life rooted in the community she loved. She graduated from Limestone Community High School in 1965 and went on to work at Illinois Bell Telephone Company. Later, she became a familiar and beloved face at Bartonville Hardware, where she worked for over 40 years, becoming known as "Carol the Hardware Lady".

Carol married Gregory McCoy on January 26, 1969. They shared a devoted marriage of 56 years, going on many adventures together and navigating countless miles in their RV. She was a proud and loving mother to their sons, Jeff and Tim.

A woman of many talents and passions, Carol had a lifelong love for music. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines Heart of Illinois Chorus. Her beautiful voice also graced two barbershop quartets—Melody Lane and Vital Sounds—bringing joy to audiences and forging lifelong friendships through harmony.

She had a deep love for travel and reading, always eager to explore new places or lose herself in a good book. But above all else, Carol cherished her role as a grandmother. Her granddaughters—Melina, Kaia, Kate, and Molly—were the light of her life. She embraced every moment with them with warmth and joy.

Carol is survived by her devoted husband Greg; her sons Jeff (Andrea) McCoy of Mapleton, and Tim (Gina) McCoy of Bartonville; her treasured granddaughters Melina, Kaia, Kate, and Molly; her sister Janet (Craig) Wiest; and nephews Damian (Michelle Scott), Aaron, Adam (Amanda), and David (Liz). She was preceded in death by her parents, Rollin and Phyllis Owen.

Those who knew Carol will remember her as warm-hearted, generous, loving—a wonderful friend—and an amazing mom, wife, sister, and mother-in-law. Her kindness touched many lives and left an enduring legacy of love.

Visitation will be held on January 19, 2026, from 04:00 PM to 07:00 PM at Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel 1203 W. Garfield Ave. Funeral Service will be held the following morning on January 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Davison Fulton/Bartonville Chapel 1203 W. Garfield Ave. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington, Illinois.
