
Carroll E. Ford, 82, of Peoria died at 12:20 p.m., Monday, September 3, 2012 at Morton Terrace Care Center, Morton, Illinois. Following Carroll’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services will be held.
Carroll was born June 16, 1930 in St. David, Illinois to Edward and Margaret Stouffer Ford. He married Colleen A. Kelly on November 30, 1950 in Peoria. She died January 25, 1996.
Carroll enlisted in the Navy in April 1946 at the age of 15 where he served on the destroyer U.S.S Mansfield. He was honorably discharged in April of 1947 when the Navy realized he was too young to serve. In 1951, he enlisted in the Army, serving during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Corporal with the occupation of tank driver and received an honorable discharge in 1956.
He worked as a roofer for 38 years retiring in 1994. He then worked as a bartender and doing maintenance for Neighborhood House, last working in 2010.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting and used to tell his daughters that the mushrooms would pop back into the ground if you made noise. He was a long time member of the American Legion Limestone Post 979, Bartonville, IL.
Surviving are two sons; David E. of New Port Richey, Florida and Jerry A. of Peoria; two daughters, Deborah J. Anderson (Terry) of Andover, Illinois, Jeanene (Jeff) Theissen, East Peoria; grandchildren, David Ford Jr., Misty Ford, Wendy Yoakum, Dustin Ford, all of Florida; Tanner Theissen, East Peoria and Adam Nakamura, Hanna City; seven great grandchildren in Florida; a sister, Rose Marie (Peaches) Royer of Peoria and several beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles, daughter-in-law Lynda French Ford, brother-in-law Bill Royer, and sister-in-law Patricia Kelly Mingus Vetter.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to everyone at Morton Terrace Alzheimer’s Unit and Vitas Hospice who did so much to make Carroll feel at home and took such wonderful care of him.
