Clarellen Varnes

Clarellen Varnes, 83, of Farmington, formerly of Hanna City, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Courtyard Estates in Farmington. She was born on August 10, 1941 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, a daughter of Edwin Dane and Clara Elizabeth (Davis) Coots. Clarellen married Charles Arnold "Chuck" Varnes on July 19, 1963 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2014 in Peoria.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Clarellen is survived by her six children, Sonja (Randy) Whitehurst of Hanna City, Debra Kohl of Canton, Chuck (Kim) Varnes, Jr. of Hanna City, Steve (Jessica) Varnes of Rock Island, Mike (Joyce) Varnes of Liberal, Kansas, and David (Angie) Varnes of Farmington; 27 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, David (Nancy) Coots of Carmel, Indiana.

She was a graduate of Farmington High School and attended Illinois State University and Midstate College.

Clarellen last worked as the office manager for Tremont Grain, retiring in 2017 after 45 years.

She was a member of Glasford Baptist Church. Clarellen was a talented seamstress and embroiderer. She was an avid reader.

Clarellen's memorial visitation will take place from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Her memorial service will be at 11:00 am also on Saturday at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in rural Hanna City following her service.
