Born March 15, 1930 in Millington, IL to Clarence and Myrtle (Ackley) Christopherson; he married Lorraine DeGroot on December 18, 1953 in Sandwich, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are their children, Crystal (Jake) Bauman of Congerville, IL and Brad (Suzy) Christopherson of Trivoli; granddaughters, Angela (Brian) Rich, Suzi (Ryan) McQueary, and Joni (Doc) Stapleton; great grandsons, Jacob (Amanda) Rich, Garett Rich, Chase and Jaxon McQueary, and Denton, Clayton and Houston Stapleton; and great-great granddaughter, Rachel.
Preceding in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Dewey was a US Army veteran and member of the Farmington American Legion Post 140.
He worked for many years buying and selling cattle for Interstate Producers Livestock Association. He also gave the morning and noon market reports on WMBD Radio in Peoria for many years.
Dewey was an accomplished horseman who touched many generations of riders. He started the original Roping Riders 4H Club in Woodford County. He judged and trained horses for over 50 years. He was a member of the Illinois State Stock Association and both the Illinois and American Quarter Horse Associations.
He was a lifelong and avid Chicago Cubs fan who ironically was signed to play minor league baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals organization before he was drafted to the Army.
He was a member of the Trivoli United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville with the Rev. Walter Wilkins and Pastor Bob DeBolt officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Trivoli.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, September 19 at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville.
Memorials are suggested to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
