Colleen M. Schoonover

Colleen M. Schoonover, 84, who resided with Dave Hislope and her daughter, Angela Merrick in Mapleton, Illinois, died Monday, January 26, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 4, 1930 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Herbert and Goldie (Kinnamon) Bennett. She married Charles Schoonover on October 9, 1949 in Brimfield, Illinois. He preceded her in death in March 16, 1998 in Peoria, Illinois. She is also preceded in death by three sisters, Patricia Campen, Ilene Doering and Shirley King.

Surviving is two children, Angela Merrick of Mapleton, Illinois and Rodney Schoonover of California. She has eight grandchildren, Derrick, Justin, Adam (Jessica) Merrick, Eric, Amber, Jeremy, Brianna and Katlin Schoonover. She has 10 great grandchildren. Colleen has one sister, Sandra (Ron) Larkin of Monett, Missouri and many nieces and nephews. She worked at the Central Illinois Light Company, Brimfield High School and lastly as an Executive Secretary at Caterpillar Inc. for several years, retiring in 1958.

Colleen was a master gardener and loved watching birds. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Kevin Dell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior the services on Friday.
