

He was born March 10, 1930 in Peoria Heights, IL to Donald L. and Hazel F. (Marshall) Mercer Sr. He married Barbara H. Neal on April 10, 1954 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2020 in Chillicothe.
Don is survived by three children, Richard “Rick” D. (Lisa Repholz) Mercer of Morton, IL, Randal “Randy” L. (Lisa) Mercer of Peoria, IL and Christina “Christie” (Lance) Hannah of Chillicothe, IL; six grandchildren, Erica (Travis) Harouff, Andrew Mercer, RJ (Stephanie) Mercer, Marissa (Grant) Wenger, Stephanie Hannah and Ethan Hannah; and five great-grandchildren.
Don worked in management at Keystone Steel and Wire, where he met his wife of 65 years. He retired in 1987 after 38 years. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War.
He was a member of the American Legion Limestone Post 979, VFW Bartonville Post 3883, Koreans Veterans Group and Joseph Robbins Lodge #930 A.F. & A.M. He also was a Eagle Scout and a Scout Master in Bartonville. Don was a longtime member of Bartonville United Methodist Church and a current member of Mossville United Methodist Church.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Pastor Yiwen Bi will officiate.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to services.
Inurnment will follow the services with military honors at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
