Donald E. Thompson, 76, of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 1, 1943 in Aden, Illinois to James and Ruby (Musgrave) Thompson. He married Wanda Heitzman on February 22, 1964 in Bartonville, Illinois. She survives.
He has two children surviving, Dawn Thompson and Kevin Thompson both of Bartonville, Illinois; one grand-dog, Junior Pujols Thompson; three sisters, Sue (Aubie) Crothers of Laveen, Arizona, Donna Vala and Patty (Joe) Reck both of Peoria, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald worked 35 years at Motion Industries which is formerly Illinois Bearing Company as a salesman and branch manager. He retired in 2003. He was a member of the Bartonville American Legion Post #979, 40 year member of the Elks Lodge in Canton, Illinois and Bethel Lutheran Church of Bartonville. He played fast pitch softball and played ball on the Sunday Morning League and Kickapoo Valley League in earlier years. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing golf with the O.F.L. group. He was a former Oak Grove School Board Member, Lake Camelot RTA Board Member and the Limestone High School Hall of Fame Committee. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinal and NASCAR fan.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kara Wiechmann will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel from 2:00 p.m until 5 p.m. and one hour prior services at the church on Monday. Fellowship and lunch will be provided following the funeral service at the church. Cremation rites will follow services and inurnment will be in the Parkview Cemetery at a later date.
