He was born October 15, 1954 in Peoria, IL to Elmer and Lucille (Meyer) Campen. He married his high school sweetheart, Michelle Gross on May 15, 1976 in Bartonville. She survives and would have celebrated 45 years of marriage.
Also surviving are their two children, Niki (Logan Meixsell) Nation of Peoria and Chad Campen of Bartonville; two grandchildren, Tyler Jensen and Aiden Nation; one brother, Mitchell (Mary) Campen of Hanna City; and his beloved dog Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and Maggie A. Wittekiend, his beloved great aunt.
Duane received his Associates Degree in Automotive Sciences from Spoon River College and worked as a Mechanic for UPS and the Red Cross before opening his own business Germantown Automotive in 2005. Duane's business afforded him several new friendships and he enjoyed time spent with them. He also farmed the family land since 1999 and was a past member of Bethel Lutheran Church and currently attended Northwoods Community Church in Peoria.
Duane played basketball at Limestone High School and Spoon River College. In his youth he was a Drag car driver, racing in his 69' Camaro and after his driving career Duane became an avid fan of the sport. He was an NRA member and enjoyed shooting at the range, traveling, going to car shows, eating out, going new places and spending time with family, especially the grandchildren.
A visitation will be on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 5 to 7 pm at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. A funeral service will be on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville.
