Frank C. Schaefer, 90, of Peoria, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on January 19, 1933 in Peoria, a son of Frank Schaefer and Matilda Ann (Closen) Schaefer. Frank married Norma Jean Schaefer on May 18, 1957 at St. Patrick's Church in Peoria. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2020 in Peoria.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Jodi (Brian) Quinn of Huntley; his son, Scott (Vicki) Schaefer of El Paso; four grandchildren, Krista Marie Quinn of Huntley, Mason Philip Quinn of Huntley, Brittany (fiance, Tristin Barlow) Henson of Pontiac, and Kaylee Schaefer of El Paso; and one sister, Doris Clara (Gary) Lowe of Peoria.
He served his country in the United States Navy Reserves from 1950 to 1951, in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, serving aboard the USS Anderson and USS Southerland during the Korean War, and in the United States Coast Guard Reserves as a Chief Warrant Officer during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and he was stationed at the Coast Guard Training Center in Yorktown, Virginia.
Frank was a graduate of Brown's School of Business in Peoria in 1957, the Illinois State Police Academy in 1957, Illinois State University in 1970 with a Bachelor's of Science in Education, and Indiana University in 1972 with a Master's in Public Affairs.
He retired in 1986 from the Illinois State Police as a Lieutenant and Zone Commander in the Division of Criminal Investigation.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 3883 in Bartonville and a life member of the American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville. Frank was a member of the Peoria County and Tazewell County Genealogical Societies, and Peoria Area Woodworkers.
Frank was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bartonville, where his funeral mass will be at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Rev. Fr. Charles Klamut will officiate. His visitation will be from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm also on Tuesday at the church. Burial will take place in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with full military rites at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2024.
