Gerald Lee Wright, 87, of Hanna City, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital. Born in Peoria, on September 24, 1939, he was the son of the late Forrest O. and Genevia H. (Deavult) Wright. Gerry proudly served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1966. He was privileged to take part in the Greater Peoria Honor Flight as a Vietnam era veteran. On January 5, 1960, he married Nancy Jane Baird. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2024.
Surviving Gerry are three daughters, Veronica Baker of Bartonville, Joy (Keith) Haun of Bartonville, and Patricia Wright of Port Charlotte, FL; five grandchildren, Kristopher (Samantha) Baker, Joshua (Aleksa) Haun, Jared (Kristi) Haun, Kiersten (Timothy) Shelley, and Dylan (Nicole) Barnard; and 12 great-grandchildren. Aside from his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Barnard; and a brother, Ronald Wright.
Gerry worked at the Duck Creek Station for CILCO as a shift supervisor and retired June 15, 1999. He was a chief with the Limestone Fire Department and member of the Smithville Cemetery board. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon. He enjoyed traveling with his wife. They often visited the Peoria Speedway, and visiting family in their RV. The family enjoyed many road trips together over the years. Above all else, Gerry enjoyed spending time with his beloved family.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. Interment will take place privately at Smithville Cemetery with military honors.
