
Bartonville- Harold R. Thompson, age 90, of Bartonville, died May 12, 2014 at Cornerstone Rehab in Peoria Heights, IL. He was born in Mitchell, SD on April 14, 1924 the son of Clyde and Hazel (Beadle) Thompson.
He is survived by his son, Terence (Mary) L Thompson and 5 grandchildren: Jeremy Thompson of Denver, CO, Michael Thompson of Fort Collins, CO, Laura, Ruby, and David Thompson all of Peoria; Two sisters: Dorothy (Dale) Strand of Mitchel, SD, and Ardith DeJong of Nebraska City, NE; four brothers: Bill Thompson of Mitchell, SD, Garry (Pat) Thompson of Riverside, CA, Chuck (Heidi) Thompson of Spanaway, WA, and George Thompson of Wilsonville, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Cecilia, one son Ronald L. Thompson, twin brother Howard, two sisters Edith Thompson and Barbara Regan, and five brothers: Willis, James, Jerry, Frederick, and Richard Thompson.
He joined the U.S. Navy in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He proudly served on the USS Wedderburn in South Pacific. He was a life member of the USS Wedderburn Association. “Tin Can Sailors” and a life member of the American Legion Post #1115 Spring Bay, IL.
Harold was a baker by trade, working for Interstate Brands, and small bakeries throughout his life. In 1960 he and his family moved to Peoria, IL and began working for Caterpillar Company retiring from Building LL in 1986.
After retirement, Harold volunteered and enjoyed organizing and planting and harvesting the Community Garden at Belwood for the benefit of the nursing home residents.
Cremation rights have been accorded and a memorial service will take place at Heavens View Christian Fellowship in Peoria with internment in Parkview Cemetery at a later date.

Cremation arrangements have been made under the direction and care of Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel.
