James H. “Jim” Browder, 89, of Peoria, Illinois passed away Tuesday, at the Unity Point\Methodist Hospital in Peoria surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 28, 1927 in Amarillo, Texas to John and Fannie (Jones) Browder. He married Lucretia Colleen “Frankie” Johnson on December 4, 1948 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on June 8, 1987. He is also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
He is survived by three sons, James H. “Jamie” Browder II of Bartonville, Joseph (Cindy Wiess) Browder of Denver, Colorado and Jon Browder of Bartonville. He has seven grandchildren, Jennifer Browder, James H. “Jory” Browder III, Jalene (Ben) Kaiser, Julie (Chris) Starnes, Jacole Browder, Jerica Browder and Sheila Quick. He has eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He worked for over 68 years as an operating engineer out of Local #649 and served as a Business Representative. He was a former chairman and member of the Peoria Regional Airport Authority, Hanna City Sportsman’s Club, Bartonville American Legion Post 979, Joseph Robbins Masonic Lodge, former Moose and Eagles Lodge member. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was selected for a Peoria Honor Flight. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Jim was a giving and loving person with a keen sense of humor. He was very mechanically inclined and a jack of all trades. There was nothing he could not accomplish.
Visitation will be Friday, July 1, 2016 from 5PM until 7PM at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville. The Rev. Michael Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
