

He was born December 4, 1915 to George and Mae (Smith) Brown in Shoals, IN, where he was raised. He married Marie Meister on October 4, 1947 in Washburn, IL. She preceded him in death on September 24, 1984 in Bartonville. His parents, one daughter, Judith Reaktenwalt, two brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
Surviving are four children, Ted Brown of Bartonville, Barbara (Ray) Jones of Arkansas, James F. (Rona) Brown Jr of Fulda, MN and Timothy (Leah) Brown of Pleasantville, IA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
James served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked in the Nail Mill for Keystone Steel and Wire for many years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Peoria and was a member of the Tuesday Card Club at Neighborhood House.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 4 to 6 pm at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. A funeral mass will be Monday, January 30, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria. Father Terry Cassidy will officiate. Burial will be at Lourdes Cemetery in Germantown Hills, IL after the services.
