John “Pink” Floyd, age 56, of Mapleton passed away after a short but courageous battle with Melanoma on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL surrounded by his precious family and the presence of God. John’s life journey started in Peoria, IL on August 7th, 1961. Born to Patricia Louise Beal, now Patricia Walker, and the late John “Marty” Floyd, he was blessed with a younger sister, Millie (John) Burns, an amazing stepfather, Bobby Walker, and awesome stepsiblings, Dennis (Leda) Walker, Sheila (Jerry) Lee, and Patty (Dave) Johns. He met his soul mate, Patty Weekly Floyd, in December 1985, and after a beautiful whirlwind romance the two were married on August 8th 1987. John and Patty’s love was a once in a lifetime love, and the two enjoyed over 32 years of amazing memories. They were also blessed to be able to have a family of their own, and those who knew John knew that one of his favorite things in life was being a present and ever loving father to his 3 girls, Chelsea, Jayla, and Taylor, and eventually his son-in-law, Corey. John was a very avid sports fan, and particularly enjoyed watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals. He also coached several of his daughters’ LGSA softball teams for many years. He was a proud alumni of both Limestone Community High School, graduating class of 1979, and Illinois State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Administration in 1983. After college John started working at Cheddars, where he met his wife, and eventually moved out of the restaurant business to be more present for his family, most recently working at The Brucker Company, where he was employed for nearly 20 years. John was also involved in several groups and organizations within the community, including Masonic Lodge 1170 in Creve Coeur, ABBAS GROTTO, and A.N.S.W.E.R.S Autism Support Group. He even served as past president of the Limestone Walter’s School Board, Delta Chi Fraternity, and the Independent Sports Club, where he served as current secretary. Visitation services will take place on Friday, December 22, 2017, from 4-7 pm at Eastside Bible Church in Morton, IL, with funeral services on Saturday December 23, 2017 at 1 pm. John’s body will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria, IL, but his soul and spirit will forever live in the hearts of those who love him more than words can say. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate the services, which will be full of tears, laughter, memories, and love for our John and our God. Memorials or donations can be made to Eastside Bible Church, and the Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association Focus Group, which is a group that has been able to provide much love and support for families managing adult children with disabilities. The family would also like to encourage everyone to please hug their loved ones throughout the holidays, and to enjoy their time together, as life is too short and precious to not cherish the good times and memories.

I have known John since he was a small child. I am so sorry for his death at such a young age. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children and sister, and my long time friend, his mother, Patty Walker and Bob. Our children aren't supposed to leave this world before us. My heart aches for all of you.
John was always a sweet sole. He will be missed by all.

First met John in the fall of 1981 as a member of Delta Chi, and have always looked forward to seeing him at reunions, homecoming, etc. As for most of us in the fraternity, news of his passing came as a complete surprise. Godspeed Pink, and my sincerest condolences to his family.

What a wonderful love story, first John and his dear wife Patty and following up with the love they shared for their daughters, family and friends. Losing a dear loved one to death is painful and leaves a void in our lives. May your treasured memories comfort you and the support of family and friends strengthen you during these difficult times.
