

Born May 11, 1924, in Lamberton, MN to Bert and Iva Sheppard, he married Harriet Hinshaw on Feb. 14, 1944 in Riverside, CA. She preceded him in death. His daughter Niki Walraven also preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Penny Callaway of Bartonville and Lori (and Tim) Newlin of Peoria; two sons, Ted (and Chris) of Peoria and Ned (and Kathy) of East Peoria; one son-in-law, Dennis Walraven of Mapleton, thirteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He worked 35 years at LeTourneau-Westinghouse and its successors.
He was a primary owner of the Peoria Post Newspaper.
He was a founding member of Citizens for Representative Government and South Towners. He was a Democratic Precinct Committeeman.
He served on the Peoria County Board. He also served on the Peoria City Council as First District Councilman.
He was a combat veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army in the European Theater.
Our family loved him very much. He will be greatly missed. A special thank you from the family goes to the caregivers of Staff of Life.
Services will be at 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, where visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm. Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:00 am.
