

Marilyn Kay Harshbarger, 81, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at her home. Born in Kansas City, MO, on June 26, 1944, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Spotz) Swanson. On June 21, 2003, she married James "Jim" Harshbarger. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2012.
Surviving is a daughter, Rene Danneels; four step-children, David (Wendy) and Shawn (Michele) Harshbarger, Lori (J.R.) England, and Kellie (Gerald) Swigger; 13 grandchildren, Scott (Jenna), Heather, Megan, Manny, Kody, Katie, Natalie, Jennifer, Jesse, Zach, Austin, and Dylan; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorraine Ohlschlager.
She graduated from Greenville University with a Master's of Science degree in Elementary Education. Besides teaching, she worked as an office manager for 19 1/2 years. For 12 years, she volunteered at Henderson Settlement in Frakes, KY. She was very involved with the missions at Church of the Brethren. Later on, she developed a passion for southern gospel music.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Church of the Brethren, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
