Marty was born on January 10, 1931, in Olney, Illinois, to Inez Andrews and John H. Rule. On October 11, 1947, she married David J. Kallister. They shared 73 years of marriage before his passing on October 14, 2020, just days after their anniversary.
She is survived by their four children, Patricia (Dave) Ramsey of Canton, David A. Kallister of Pekin, John (B.J.) Kallister of Indian Lake Estates, Florida, and Kathryn “Kate” Conklin of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her siblings, Nadine Scott, Lee Riekert, Herbert Rule, James “Russell” Rule and Bobby Rule; and one grandson, Todd Kallister.
Marty was a loving wife, devoted mother, and dedicated homemaker. A pillar of strength and positivity, she was a friend to all and was known for her compassion, generosity, quick smile, and welcoming hugs.
She enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables, gathering with her Bunco Club, hosting the annual family fish fry, and spending time on the fishing boat with her beloved husband at their winter home on Lake Okeechobee. The giant platter of Christmas Cookies she baked every year is legendary.
Throughout her life, Marty pursued many interests. She was a licensed realtor who worked part time for Kallister Realty, a certified tax preparer, and a swim instructor. She was also a talented musician who played both the piano and guitar.
Marty lived a full and happy life. Her legacy of love, strength, kindness, and joy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be missed every day.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our brother, John (B.J.), and his partner, Theresa Happach, for the loving care they provided to Mom during the years following our father’s passing. During a challenging time for our family, they made sure she could remain in a warm, familiar home for as long as possible. We will always be grateful for their devotion, compassion, and support.
