Mary “Ann” Granneman, age 80, of Trivoli, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at her residence surrounded by family. Ann was born on September 20, 1941, in Hackleburg, Alabama to Roy and Eva (Cole) Osborn. She married James “Jim” Granneman on July 4, 1964, in Peoria, Illinois; he preceded her in death on January 15, 2012, in Peoria.
She is survived by her three children, Angela M. (Eugene) Sanders, Jason J. (Stephanie) Granneman, Alan D. (Cindy) Granneman; eight grandchildren, Bradley James and Kathryn Ann Perry; Kevin Thomas James, Kyle Franklin, Kody Donald; Ashton Alan, Carter Jacob and Lauren Grace Granneman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Nina Goodwin and six brothers, Cleveland, Roy Davin, Albert, Julious, Billy and Tommy Osborn.
Ann grew up in Hackleburg, Alabama, her paradise. She always talked about how happy her childhood was in Alabama, living on a rural farm, working hard (even picking cotton!) and loving the time she spent wandering the land and spending time with her dear friends and family. Ann loved school and was even Homecoming Queen her senior year of high school. After high school, Ann joined her family in Pekin, Illinois and studied to become an office worker. She soon worked at Farmers Auto Insurance as a Secretary and then worked at Caterpillar Inc for nine years, leaving the workforce to raise a family. Jim always teased if she would have stayed at Caterpillar, she would have become Vice President. Ann had a strong drive and had no problem working hard outside all day, while Jim and the kids needed regular breaks.
Ann was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the best cook with her signature dishes being fried okra and apple pie (family favorites). She loved hosting dinners for her family on Sunday’s which included a walk on their beautiful property and maybe even a tractor or golf cart ride with the grandkids and wrapping up the day with a comical game of Ms. Pac-Man between Ann and Jim (Ann always won). She loved spending time with her grandchildren, baking cookies, reading books, and playing games…she would move heaven and earth for them. Her garden and flower beds were bountiful and beautiful, and she loved picking berries with the grandkids. She was a shrewd card player, and her laugh was infectious. Ann loved visiting with her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was a great friend to many and loved by all. Ann had a strong Christian faith. She regularly read her Bible and prayed faithfully.
She is with Jim again, her beloved parents and siblings, but most of all, at peace. Until we meet again… love you, Mom.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of UnityPoint Hospice for their compassionate care given to Ann. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to TAPS in Pekin, IL or the West Alabama Food Bank.
