

He was born on April 26, 1928 in Peoria to Raleigh and Florence Helmantoler Nation. He married Lucy J. Lippman on June 29, 1946 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Michael (Judie) Nation of Peoria, Tim (Lauri) Nation of Pekin, Scott Nation of Peoria, and Susan (Bob) Hartman of Glasford; one daughter-in-law, Tammra Nation of Peoria; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one son, Patrick; one brother, Jim; and one sister in law, Shelia.
He was a lifelong member of the Bartonville United Methodist Church in Bartonville and a member of the American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville.
Melvin was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved fishing and spending time with his family at the cabin. His other passion was tinkering with cars and attending cruise-ins with his beloved 1963 Ford Falcon.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday April 27, 2010 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville. The Rev. Linda Richard will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
