Patricia Ann "Patty" Ellis, 75, of Bartonville, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024 at her home. She was born on September 9, 1948 in Avon, a daughter of Virgil E. DeJaynes and Marjorie D. (Utterback) DeJaynes. Patricia married John D. "Johnny Chicago" Ellis on April 4, 1964 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2017 in Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Gene DeJaynes.
Patty is survived by her two children, Carol (Craig) Opper and Johnny (Jennifer) Ellis, Jr., both of Bartonville; five grandchildren, Alexa Ellis, Morgan Ellis, Joseph Opper, Jacob Opper, and Cameron Ellis; one brother, Bobby DeJaynes of Joliet; one sister, Velma Burke of Bartonville; one nephew, Rick (Kristie) Burke of Flagler, Florida; two great-nephews, Wesley Burke and Spencer Burke, both of Tampa, Florida; and Erika Neal of Mapleton, whom she thought of as a granddaughter.
She worked in Williams Hall at Bradley University during the 1980's. Since that time she babysat her grandchildren and then for others and eventually their children also.
Patty played recreational volleyball for many years in Peoria. She was also an avid bowler, bowling many years at Town and Country Bowl, Mt. Hawley Bowl, and Landmark Bowl. Patty enjoyed cooking and baking; everyone loved her carrot cake. She often cooked lunch for her husband and co-workers and delivered it to their job site. Patty loved going on motorcycle rides with her husband and all of their "Harley" friends. She enjoyed doing yard work and was very proud of her yard. Patty and John enjoyed spending time at their camper at Indian Grove Campground in Coffeen, IL. She loved sitting around the campfire with all of their camping friends. Patty loved to travel and looked forward to her annual birthday trip with her son and daughter. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She also thought of the children she babysat (Kennedy and Brooks) as her grandchildren and all of them brought her much joy.
Patty's funeral service will be at 10:00 am Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Her visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024 also at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Illinois CancerCare in Pekin.
