Born on June 27, 1971, in Pontiac, IL, Pete was a beloved husband, father, son, and brother, whose life was a testament to his passionate spirit and profound impact on those around him. He was a devoted family man, giving his all to his wife and children. Pete was admired and adored by everyone he met, known for his unwavering fairness and justice, and never afraid to speak up or spark a thoughtful debate. Employed by Trigo Group, Pete was the IT Manager. He received his education in Pontiac Schools and Graduated with a 2yr Degree in Information Technology at West Shore Community College Scottville, MI.
Pete’s passions were as vast as they were varied, reflecting a brilliant mind that excelled in every endeavor. From computer networking and programming to electronics and vintage music equipment, his curiosity knew no bounds. However, it was through music that Pete truly lived to inspire. He dedicated the last five years to performing with his band, Revel in Red, leaving an immense and immeasurable mark on the Central Illinois music scene and far beyond.
His musical journey began in the late 1980s when he was inspired to pick up a bass guitar. His first live performance, a memorable three-song set at a school Christmas program, ended with a rockstar flourish—his pick thrown into the audience. Soon after, his brother-in-law introduced him to progressive rock legends Rush, sparking an immediate love for the bass that his grandmother, Winifred Tombaugh helped nurture with his first instrument. The rest, as they say, is history.
While 80s pop remained a favorite on his playlists, Pete’s musical prowess grew to encompass diverse influences of progressive rock, to jazz and fusion and funk. Through countless hours of exploring music catalogs, Pete became a well-rounded musician with the remarkable ability to understand, feel, and play any style. His live performances were all-consuming exercises in self-expression; he believed, “It’s just no fun for me if I can’t get into it and let it all go… so that’s what I do.”
Pete often acknowledged the incredible musicians who shaped his journey. He cherished his collaborations, from his first regular gigging band, Ruby Maxx, to the local favorite Krankinstein. He also played with Vent, Braille, Legatto Riot, Decadance, The Shake, and The Unhandsome Devils. He was grateful to all others that took their place in his musical journey. “It’s my pleasure to call them all bandmates and friends, and the impact of all of them on me cannot be overstated.”
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Pinky Ramsey; his children, Ellie and Ivy; his mother, Alice Ramsey; and his sisters, Leslie (Lance) Wilson of Normal, IL, and Suzanne (Robert) Foltz of Chenoa, IL. He also leaves behind many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews who will deeply miss him. He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall W. Ramsey.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date, time and location TBD. Services are being handled by Davison-Fulton/Bartonville Chapel.
