He was born July 10, 1935 in Hominy, OK to Shirley and Leona (Parkin) Newport. He married Donna Bush on Aug. 22, 1959 in Peoria. She survives along with one son, Chris (Donna) Newport of Glasford one daughter, Melissa Mullen of Hanna City, five grandchildren: Adam Newport, Lexi (Chance) Braun, Zach Mullen, Christin Klein, Jake Mullen, and six great-grandchildren: Jaxon Mullen, Maverick Mullen, Cohyn Klein, Brecken Klein, Drake Braun and Blaze Braun.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jean Herrin, and one brother, Thomas Newport.
Phil was a History teacher for 42 years with the last 37 at Hollis Grade School. At Hollis Grade School he also enjoyed coaching several sports. He was also an avid St Louis Cardinals fan.
Funeral services will be private with a celebration of Phil’s life at a later date at Hollis Grade School. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial tree the family will plant at Hollis School in Phil’s name.
