

She was born May 29, 1949 in Peoria to Joseph and Edna Larue (Lipsey) Astel. She married Philip Hornung on December 28, 1966 in Bloomington. After a year of marriage they held a Catholic wedding ceremony at St. John’s Catholic Church in Peoria.
Surviving are her husband of more than 40 years; her children Phillip Hornung of East Peoria, Kristine Hornung of Peoria, and Jamie (Jim) Holocker of Morton; one brother Stephen Astel of Falls Church, VA; one sister Missie Jordan of Peoria; and seven grandchildren, Tiffanie, Jacob, Taylor, Christopher, Noah, Brody, and Kaden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Cheryl Sue, step-mother Mary Ann Benisch, and her in-laws, Phillip and Doris Hornung.
Rebecca received a certificate from ICC for medical transcription. But her true love was with her family. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sharing her love with those who surrounded her. She especially loved to help children. She was a foster parent to many children. She touched many lives in many different ways. She will be missed dearly by her family and all who knew her.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church were a funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 6, 2010. Father Terry Cassidy will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 4:45 P.M. Additional visitation will be held at St. Ann’s one hour prior to the funeral mass on Friday. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery.
