He was born July 13, 1942 in Peoria to Clarence and Anna Josephine (Morgan) Gunther. They preceded him in death along with one brother, Robert Gunther.
Survivors include two nephews: Joe (Kathy) Gunther, Michael Gunther, and one niece, Tammy (Tim) Hanauer.
Ron taught Biology and Advanced Biology at Mid-County School District in Varna from 1966 until his retirement in 1989. While there he won the Teacher of the Year award three times. He received his M.S from Bradley in 1971. He was well known for his teachings in Biology and had several of his papers published.
He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville.
He enjoyed bird watching, especially woodpeckers, herons and waterfowl.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
Burial will be in Olio Cemetery in Eureka.
Memorials may be made to the Bradley University Biology Department or the Spoon River College Biology Department.
