Ronald Lewis Knight

February 27, 1947September 9, 2013

Ronald Lewis Knight, age 66, of Virginia (formerly of Bartonville), passed away on Monday, September 9, 2013 in Manassas, Virginia.

Ronnie was born on February 27, 1947 in Gassville, Arkansas to Gale and Blanche (Burton) Knight.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Jan (Bevins); his daughter, Lisa Jeans (Tim) of Germantown Hills; sisters, Shirley Heller (Gene) of Bartonville, Sharon Lovelady (Donnie) of Hanna City, brother, Jerry (Val) of Ozark, MO and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Gale.

Ronnie was a 1965 graduate of Limestone High School. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball in the Bartonville and Peoria area for many years. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the 101st Air Cav during the Vietnam War, where he received the Bronze Star Medal for Heroism, two Purple Hearts, among many other honors. After serving in the war, Ronnie was a member of Carpenters Local 183 where he worked for River City Construction for a number of years. Ronnie and Jan then relocated to Branson, MO where they managed the Ozark Valley Inn for several years. Most recently, they were property managers for Self Storage Plus in Manassas, VA.

An avid Cardinal fan, Ronnie had a passion for old cars, loved to tell stories and make people laugh. He was looking forward to his upcoming retirement so he could spend time with Jan traveling the United States in their newly purchased motorhome - a dream they shared for many years.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. A graveside with military honors and interment will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville on Thursday, September 19 at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Veterans Association.

Dearest Jan, Niece Lori, and family... May the peace that comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead....May the sorrow you feel in your heart be lighten by the love that surrounds you. What a wonderful man, Jesus must have needed to fill the #4 spot in his batter line-up. I am truly sorry for your lose and wished I would've been at the service. Thinking of you, and having you in thoughts and prayers.

Jan,Shirley,Jerry and Sharon,
After several years Ronnie and I finally got in touch. I was looking forward to finally reuniting with Ronnie and Jan after he retired. I will deeply miss our conversations and wont ever forget our times in high school and after we both came home from Viet Nam. I am so sorry I was unable to attend his services but he is on my mind and in my heart these next days that you are mourning his loss. He was a great guy and you have my deepest sympathy in his passing.

Ronnie and I went to Limestone together and were in some of the same classes. He and I were friends but after school kinda split up. Both of us had the Viet Nam experience. He went Army and I went Marines. Only got together a few times behind the Monroes (I married Margie) at the Pedersons in Bartonville. So sorry to see he has passed. Wished we could have gotten together again but the miles and lives separated us. You have our sympathy-he was a good guy and I always enjoyed being around him!
