Bartonville - With her devoted husband at her side, Susan Lynn Sathoff passed away peacefully at age 74 due to complications from COVID-19 on March 1, 2021. A lifelong resident of the Bartonville/Peoria area, Susan led a life of quietly supporting those around her, working hard at everything she did, and enjoying the small treasures of life.
Susan was born in Peoria, IL on October 31, 1946, to Raymond and Barbara Peters. She was a graduate of Limestone Community High School. Soon after graduation in 1964, she married Gene Sathoff, who she worked with at the Thompson Food Basket grocery store in Bartonville. After their marriage, Susan worked at various companies, including Laidlaw Wire Co. and Mr. Donut, finally finding her calling at United Parcel Service, where she worked for 25+ years as a pre-load supervisor until her retirement.
Susan was the definition of strength. She was tough as nails and wouldn’t back down when she knew she was in the right, but she was also a very tender and caring person, with an endless amount of love for her close friends, family, and any stray cat that managed to cross her path. She adored animals, antiques, pizza, raspberry crème chocolates, and anything sung by Elvis Presley—she even had the soundtracks from his movies! She was a quick wit, a fabulous cook, and a second mom to many of her son’s friends. She was always someone who you could count on to be honest in her opinions and advice, as well as in her reactions—there was nothing more rewarding than when you saw that certain twinkle in her crystal blue eyes.
Susan is survived by her husband and love of her life for 56 years, Gene Sathoff, and her son, Ronald Sathoff of Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother, Dalton Peters.
Susan was greatly loved by all those around her. Although she is no longer in our sight, she will always be in our hearts, walking beside us and whispering her good advice for our souls to hear.
Due to current circumstances, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A celebration of Susan’s life will be held sometime this spring/summer for her friends and family at a location to be determined. Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Peoria Humane Society.
