

Virgil Dean Janssen, 82, of rural Glasford, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Unity Point\Methodist Hospital in Peoria. He was born on October 30, 1934 in Timber Township, Peoria County, to John R. and Jean G. (Dornberger) Janssen. He went 8 years at the Saylor Grade School and 4 years at the Timber Township High School in 1952. He married Iola Mae Dringenberg on August 29, 1959 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Glasford. She preceded him in death on September 2, 2008.
He is survived by two sons, Ron Janssen of Glasford and Mark Janssen of Trivoli. He has two grandchildren, Nicole (Bill) Lettow of Hanna City and Chris (June) Janssen of Mapleton and four great grandchildren, Madeline Mae Lettow, Cody Dean Lettow, Emily Noel Lettow and Miles Ronald Janssen. He has two brothers surviving, Arlan (Martha) Janssen of Hanna City and Myron (Karen) Janssen of Glasford and several nieces and nephews.
Virgil worked 20 years at the Hiram Walker Distillery in Peoria, retiring in 1974. He was a lifelong farmer in the Timber, Logan and Trivoli Township areas. He was a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau which he was a Director for several years and a Peoria County ASCS Director for several years. He was a lifetime member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Glasford, Illinois. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1958. Virgil enjoyed collecting antique tractors and going to tractor shows and sales.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Noon at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Glasford. The Revs. Jay Johnson and Harlan Kayden will officiate. Visitation will be at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel Friday from 4PM until 7PM and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
