Virginia R. Mathenia

She was born on September 23, 1931 in Peoria, IL to Walter and Lillian (Rutter) Slater. She married James Mathenia on February 17, 1951 in Peoria. He preceded her in death in 1994. Her parents, one grandson and one great-grandson also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Lillian R. Mathenia, Debra ( Rick) Baron and Sandra K. (Ron) Reagan all of Peoria. Also surviving are four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Ginny worked as a school crossing guard for seventeen years at several Peoria area schools. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Clover Leaf Chapter, and served as Worthy Matron four times. She was also a member of the Peoria Moose Lodge Women’s Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Post 8662 Women’s Auxiliary and was a member of the Daughter’s of the Nile, Otho Temple #36 in Peoria and Bradley Epworth United Methodist Church in Peoria.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 from10:00 to 12:00 a.m. with a funeral to follow at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria,
