She was born August 13, 1920 in Marion, KY to Henry and Viola (Belt) Underdown. She first married Ecton McGraw in Kentucky. She later married Leslie Pye on April 14, 1945. He died on December 28, 1982 in Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Harry, William Robert, and Wayne; one sister Alphenia, her only daughter Ruby Peck and son-in-law James Peck who was more like a son to her; and a step-daughter Beverly Sap.
Surviving are her granddaughter Carrie (Rick) Puckett, grandson Gregory Peck, sister Ruby Claridge, great-grandson Aaron Peck, great-granddaughter Ali Puckett, one step-daughter Judy Baker, six nephews, and seven nieces.
Wilma worked for Sunbeam during WWII, then later worked for Bemis and managed Tilton Bakery in Peoria for many years before becoming a homemaker.
Wilma was a member of the Maxwell Road Church of God. She was also a volunteer for more than 25 years at Neighborhood House and made long lasting friends there. She made friends easily and she knew how to be a friend. A special acknowledgement would like to be given to Judy Edwards, Roenna Altic, and Sandy Williams for their love, support, and friendship. Wilma was blessed to have these special people in her life to make it richer. Two other special friends in Wilma’s life were Bernice Hoogerwerf and Marge McClintock who were as good of friends to her as she was to them.
Wilma trusted the Lord and lived her life accordingly. She was a humble person who loved without bounds, like Jesus.
A special note of thanks to Jan Malloy of OSF Hospice-a special angel. If any special person has been missed it’s only due to an oversight and the large circle of people in her life. A large void will be left to those remaining.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Pastor Ted Deal will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M., Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Maxwell Road Church of God.
