Alice Odell Handy

Alice O. Handy, 90, of Bassett, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Henry County on August 3, 1925 to Harvey L. Helms and Louetta Turner Helms. Alice was retired from Bassett Walker Knitting Company with 30 years of service and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Junior Handy, daughter, Pamela Handy Foster, sisters, Mary Wright, Laura Marshall, Lucy Triplett and Irene Saul and brothers, Amos Helms and B. J. Helms.

Surviving are her sons, Donnie Handy of Bassett, Kenny Handy and his wife Joan of Bassett and Sammy Handy of Bassett; sister, Evelene Adkins of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Rhea officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at Collins Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Helms Family Cemetery.
