
Barbara Clark Eden, age 90, a long time resident of Richmond and a resident of King’s Grant in Martinsville, Virginia for the last 10 years, died Saturday, February 22nd, 2014 after a many year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Grenada, Mississippi, July 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Stanley and Ellen Lapp Clark.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert Scott Eden and his wife, Dr. Janice Bird of Annapolis, Md., her daughter-in-law, Lee Eden of Martinsville, Va., seven grandchildren: Alex Eden and his wife Lauren, Jana Jennings and her husband Ryan, Jaime Peck and her husband Jered, Jennifer Eden, Suzanne Eden and her husband Jon Schnaars, William Eden, and Andrew Eden, and seven great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Edward Eden, and by her son, Alex Clark Eden
Mrs. Eden received her undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Missouri and received a graduate degree in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, of the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond. Mrs. Eden served as the Director of Christian Education at River Road Presbyterian Church in Richmond, of which she was a founding member, and at Third Presbyterian Church in Richmond. She devoted herself to her family and friends and the Presbyterian Church, and was beloved by all.
A memorial service will be held at River Road Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 2nd, at 2 PM, with a reception after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Theological Seminary, the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, or the Endowment Fund of River Road Presbyterian Church.
