Bertha Byrd Stokes

Mrs. Stokes was born on October 14, 1932 in Henry County, VA to James Issac Hairston and Bertha Gallant Hairston. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Mack “Pimp” Stokes, a daughter, Pamela Denise Stokes, a grandson, James Issac Stokes and a great grandson, Carson Duran Street, 3 sisters, Bessie Snell, Mildred Holt, Ruby McGhee, 4 brothers, Lester Hairston, Columbus Hairston, Pete Hairston and O'Dell Hairston. Most of her walk with Christ was a dedicated member of Gethsemane Pentecostal Holiness Church. Later she faithfully gave her membership to Greater Love Ministries. She was retired from Bassett-Walker.

Mrs. Stokes is survived by 5 daughters, Sheila Hagwood (Willie), Rita Lawrence (Tony), Jennifer Stokes, Myrna Felecia Street (Don), Sandra Yvette Hairston (Rodney), 5 sons, William Timothy Stokes, James Eric Stokes (Tammy), Darwin Stokes, Dwight Stokes (Marie), Glenn Stokes (Alysa), Daughter & Granddaughter,

"Shemikka Stokes", 1 sister, Claudia Mae Preston, 3 brothers, Leonard Hairston, Lazarus Hairston (Barbara), Elijah “E.C.” Hairston, 23 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 11:00 am to 11:30 am at Greater Love Ministries, 906 East Church Street, Martinsville, VA 24112 with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 am with Dr. Avery Preston officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
