Cecil Emmitt Newman

Cecil E. Newman, 85, of Bassett died Sunday, March 08, 2015, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Stuart. Cecil was born in Patrick County of February 15, 1930, to the late Emmitt Green Newman and Nannie Turner Newman. Cecil served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired after thirty four years in supervision with J.D. Bassett Furniture Co and member of the American Legion Bassett Post.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucy Mae Newman, Essie Evelyn Wright, Irene Emmazettie Simmons, Clara Beatrice “Penny” Smith and his brothers, James Clyde Newman, Clarence Frank Newman, Ester Eugene Newman, Luther Elwood Newman, Ralph Jefferson Newman, Charlie Ray Newman, Johnnie Calvin Newman and Curtis Green Newman.

Surviving are one daughter, Deborah Ann Ingle of Stuart, one son, Terry Lee Newman of Bassett, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 P.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in the Collins Funeral Home Chapel

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 12, 2015, in the Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Junior Newman officering. Interment will follow in the Foley Family Cemetery on the Pole Bridge Road in Patrick County with full military honors provided by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
