
She was born in Franklin Co. on May 24, 1924 to the late Clarence Monroe Martin and Della Setliff Martin. Christine was a 1942 graduate of Bassett High School and 1944 graduate of National Business College; she assisted her father in the operation of Mountain Grocery in Bassett and was a bookkeeper for Bassett Chair Company until the end of World War II. She worked for Hal C. Rich Company later known as Don Calaman Company where she was the Secretary-Treasurer for nine years and later retired after thirty three years of service with Virginia Machine Tool Company. She was a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady W. Peters, infant daughter, Brenda Sue Peters, two sisters, Irene M. Ross and Ailene Thompson and two brothers, Otis M. Martin and Leonard G. Martin.
Surviving are one daughter, Teena P. Haynes of Vinton, one granddaughter, Shannon Haynes of Bassett, one grandson, Brent Haynes and wife Dayna of Lynchburg, three great grandsons, Ethan, Trenton and Parker Haynes.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 in the chapel of Collins Funeral Home of Bassett with Rev. Dr. Joey McNeil officiating. Interment will follow in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
