Obituary of Clarence G Hodnett
Clarence Gordon Hodnett Stanleytown, VA Clarence Gordon Hodnett, age 79, passed away on January 8th, 2021 at his residence in Stanleytown, VA. He was surrounded by his family. Clarence was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 24, 1941. He was the son of James Burleigh Hodnett, Sr. and Madeline Gordon Thomas. He was a graduate from West End High School, Birmingham, AL in 1960. Upon graduating from high school, he entered the United States Army with his first assignment being at Ft Jackson in South Carolina for 2 years, then transferred to Germany for the remainder of his service. After his military service he received a Diploma in Nursing from Carraway Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. He also received his BS in Health Administration from Ottawa University, Kansas. He went on to become an advanced practice nurse as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for 27 years and took his first job in Martinsville, Virginia where he met his wife Delene Faye Goad. They celebrated 49 years of marriage this last August. Clarence was a devoted member of the Martinsville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and also volunteered his medical skills at the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad early in his career. Clarence was devoted to genealogy work, loved art, antiques, old homes, and traveling. More than anything, Clarence loved being a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, as well as serving others. He had a big heart, loved people, loved to laugh and joke around. Clarence had a strong faith in God, and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He lived his life around the gospel principles he came to know and love. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by 3 sisters: Lila Harriett, Alice Joyce, Martha and a brother, James Burleigh, Jr. Clarence is survived by his wife, Delene Goad Hodnett, 2 sons Everette Lee (Busugar) and Gordon Thomas (Sweet Baby), and 3 daughters: Tara Hodnett Koldewyn (Sugarpie), Julia Hodnett Lang (Sugar Baby), and Celena H. Haynes (Baby). He has 8 grandchildren: Jaxon, Annamarie, Porter, Alexander, Mahala, Brigham, Jules, and Claire; 2 bonus grandchildren: David and Henry, as well as brother, R. Harold Hodnett of Buford, GA, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends which he loved dearly. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who loved him. A funeral service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 15 at the Martinsville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bassett, Va
