

He was born March 4, 1935, in Bassett, Virginia, a son of the late James Paul Lackey and Nannie Hylton Lackey. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, James McCray Lackey and Hylton Hartley Lackey, four sisters, Pauline Lackey Brown, Katheline Lackey Turman, Irene Lackey Manor, and Elsie Lackey Trent.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Benita Dickerson Lackey, his daughter, Jean Marie Lackey Nelson and husband Tom, of Terrace Park, Ohio, his son, Jeffrey Maynard Lackey and wife Charlene of Palmyra, three grandsons, Alex Lackey, Mac Nelson, and Nick Lackey, and a granddaughter, Rachel Nelson, a brother, William Kenneth Lackey of Lenoir, NC, and two sisters, Evelyn L. White and Nancy L. Edelen, both of Martinsville, a sister-in-law, Annie Mae Lackey, and his brothers-in-law, Finney Edelen and Connie Turman, and many nieces and nephews.
He worked as an electrician and supervisor at various furniture industries in Martinsville and Henry County, and he retired from Henry County Plywood.
The funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Collinsville with the Rev. Larry Cheek, the Rev. Roy McVey, and Mark Ivey officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at First Baptist Church of Collinsville and at other times at the home.
