Emily Cheshire White

Emily Cheshire White, of Bassett, Virginia, died on April 12, 2014 at the age of 93. Mrs. White was born on March 8, 1921 in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Harry B. Cheshire and Bettie Lee Morris Cheshire. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Cheshire, and her brothers, Harry B. Cheshire, Jr., Daniel Cheshire, James W. Cheshire and Edward T. Cheshire. She was a 1938 graduate of Martinsville High School.

Mrs. White is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Howard H. White of Bassett; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. White and Bonnie, of Tazewell, Virginia, her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth W. DuBois and George, of Fayetteville, NC, her son and daughter-in-law, Edward H. White and Melissa, of Martinsville, Virginia; grandchildren, William DuBois, Austin White and Davis White. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Anne R. Cheshire; nieces, Bonnie C. Greenwalt, Lucy C. Minter, Susan Lathrop and Margaret C. Ferguson, and special caregiver, Sarah Mullins.

Mrs. White was a wonderful, caring and giving person who adored her family. She was a loyal friend to many and she cherished these friendships. While her future husband, Howard, was in the army in Europe during WW II, she wrote to him each day. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 408, Bassett, VA 24055. Mrs. White was a faithful member of the church for over 65 years.

Funeral service celebrating Mrs. White’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett Chapel. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett.
