Emory L. Gillispie, Sr., 76, of Stuart and formerly of Bassett, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center where he was a resident. He was born in Henry County, March 30, 1936 to Vince Gillispie and Irene Vaughan Gillispie. He retired from DuPont after 30 years of service and was a member of Hill Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine (Jeri) Gillispie; a granddaughter, Emily Claire Sturgill; a sister, Elizabeth G. Payne and a brother, Raymond Gillispie.
Surviving are two children, Linda G. Sturgill Dickerson of Rocky Mount, Emory L. Gillispie, Jr. and wife, Sonya of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; one sister, Shirley G. Turner of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Jason Karr Gillispie, Stephanie Lauren Gillispie and Andrew Christian Sturgill.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11:00 am at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett with Dr. Steve Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Collins Funeral Home.
