Ersie Spencer Hurd

Ersie Spencer Hurd, 85, of Oak Level Community, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 at her home. She was born in Franklin County on August 31, 1930 to George Robert Spencer and Essie Lee Bowling Spencer. Ersie was a graduate of Ferrum College. She was retired from Stanley Furniture Outlet with 19 years of service and attended Oak Level Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Millard Hurd and her sister, Cleta Spencer Turbow.

Surviving are her sons, David Raymond Hurd, Sr. of Oak Level and John Millard Hurd, Sr. of Martinsville; her daughters, Dolores Ann Hurd Thompson and Mary Joanne Hurd both of Oak Level; her brother, Melvin Buford Spencer of Roanoke; five grandchildren, a special grandson, David Raymond Hurd, Jr. of Oak Level, John Millard Hurd, Jr., Dewey Paul Newman, Jr., Woody John Newman and Amy Lynn Nunley; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Oak Level Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Glass officiating. Entombment will be held at Henry Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
