Grace Inez Adkins

Grace Inez Adkins, age 80, formerly of the Philpott Community and currently of Martinsville, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Franklin Healthcare in Rocky Mount, VA.

She was born September 22, 1928 in Burlington, NC to Joseph Adam Stegall and Mamie Ross Stegall, both deceased.

She retired from Bassett Walker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bassett where she was a member of the Kingdom Seekers Sunday School Class. She was also a lifetime member of the Bassett Ruritan Club and a 55 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Clifford Adkins and a brother, Nathan Matthew Stegall.

She is survived by two daughters, Glenna Rueda of Rocky Mount, VA and Gay Minton of Ridgeway, VA; two sons, Gene Adkins of Martinsville and Mike Adkins of Bassett; two sisters, Irene Widner of Ashboro, NC and Shirley Philpott of Bassett; one brother, Calvin Stegall of Penhook, VA; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Bassett with Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Henry Memorial Park.
