Harold Dean Horton

Ret. US Army Major Harold Dean Horton, age 80 of Cameron, N.C., passed away at his home on Monday, April 26, 2021.
Dean was born on May 2, 1940 to the late Alma Ashburn Horton and Hubert Burtrand Horton in Henry County, Virginia. Dean dedicated his life to his country in the US Army and Special Forces. He was highly decorated and was inducted to the US Army Operational Testers’ Hall of Fame in 2011. After retirement, he was known as the Jack-of-all-trades and especially loved working with his hands.
Dean is survived by his wife of 60 years, Iris Conway Horton; two daughters, Paige Benefield and Kim Loving and husband Monty; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, J.W. Horton and wife Faye; Alan Hodges and wife Elaine, one sister, Debra Lavinder and husband Michael and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services honoring Dean’s life was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at First Apostolic Church of Sanford, N.C. There was a visitation held at the church on Friday evening, April 30, 2021 for the family.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, Virginia 24055.
