
Born in Martinsville, she was a daughter of the late Harry Dillard Grogan and Mary Morris Grogan. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Joe Travis Helms, and her brother, Harry Shelburne Grogan.
Hazel retired from DuPont and was an active member of Horsepasture Christian Church and of Sunday School Class 7. She served on numerous committees at Kings Grant.
Hazel is survived by her two sisters, Mildred Grogan Marshall of Ridgeway and Colleen Grogan Dallas of Martinsville, nieces and nephews, Henry Tillman Marshall of Summerfield, NC, Linda Marshall Reynolds of Ridgeway, Katherine Dallas Kidder of Charlottesville, Liz Dallas Ferrell of Martinsville, Margaret Dallas Lester of Charlottesville, Robert Dillard Grogan of Ridgeway, Leigh Grogan-Morris of Sacramento, CA, and their families.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, July 12, 2013, at Horsepasture Christian Church with Pastor Dave Cuthbertson and Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Horsepasture Christian Church, Class 7 Special Projects Fund, 1146 Horsepasture-Price Rd., Ridgeway, VA 24148, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. A private entombment service will be held at the Bassett Family Mausoleum.
